Auditable
Many subsidiary views
A module where many line items have their own shape is several modules in one; move line items that share a shape into a module of that shape.
What MaxCheck detects
A module where 5 or more line items, and more than 25% of them, differ from the module in Applies To, time scale, time range or versions. One finding per module. No Data line items, modules with no header row, and reporting and export modules (Planual exceptions) are skipped.
Why it hurts
Each line item with its own shape is a module hidden inside the module. Views, pages and readers can't tell, and the module no longer reads as one table.
Example
Taken from the rule's own test cases: formulas it must flag, and formulas it must not.
HintFlags this(five of seven line items with their own Applies To or time)
- Item 1
- Item 2
- Item 3
- Applies To: Products
- Item 4
- Applies To: Regions
- Item 5
- Applies To: no lists
- Item 6
- Time scale: Month
and 1 more line items
Fine (four subsidiary views)
- Item 1
- Item 2
- Item 3
- Item 4
- Applies To: no lists
- Item 5
- Applies To: no lists
- Item 6
- Time scale: Month
and 1 more line items
How to fix
Move the line items that share a shape into a module of that shape. Keep a subsidiary view only where it earns its place: a ratio, a page selector, a sort key.
